Native Americans

  1. What does he say about life?
-          He’s talking about how the prophecy and inability for man on earth is coming to an end in a spiritual way. In his point of view it is necessary to understand the spiritual way of living to survive, and if you fail in this understanding you won’t survive.

  1. How does he describe the arrival of Columbus and European settlers in general?

-          He describes it as for them; it was the First World War taking place. The reason he explains it like this is because we can imagine how superior and down looking they were. They felt that they were the conquers and rulers, and therefore just took America by force, and by succeeding and accomplishing this is because they had newer and more advanced technology in both weapons and general sustainability.

  1. What does he say about the future of America?
-          He’s talking about how the prophecy and inability for man on earth is coming to an end in a spiritual way. In his point of view it is necessary to understand the spiritual way of living to survive, and if you fail in this understanding you won’t survive.

  1. In the beliefs of the Hopi Indians, how can you “make it”?
-          In the Hopi people point of view it’s necessary to understand the spiritual reality way of life and how to live it. Only then will you make it.

  1. How do the Hopi count the time of a human life?
-          The Hopi sun priests make use of thirteen points on the horizon for the determination of ceremonial dates.  Their ritual year begins in November with a New Fire ceremony, which is given in an elaborate and extended from every fourth year, for it then includes the initiation of novices into the fraternities.  Other ceremonies are similarly elaborated at these same times; while still other rites, as the Snake- and Flute Dances, occur in alternate years.  The Hopi year is divided into two unequal seasons, the greater festivals occurring in the longer season, which includes the cold months.  Five and nine days are the usual active periods for the greater festivals, though the total duration from the announcement to the final purification is in some instances twenty days.
  1. How is human life related to nature and especially the tree?
-          Human life is related especially to the tree because we share the same DNA as the tree. And we can see how the tree breaths in what we exhale and when we exhale, the tree breaths in. Just general how we humans have a common destiny with the tree and how this is made in a circle of life, like the Lion King for instance.

  1. What term does he use for our planet/our world?
He describes it as mother earth. He also says that when it comes to the climate changes, he doesn’t perceive it has negative at all. He uses the word evolution for this matter.

Part 2

  1. What is said about the situation of Native Americans in general today (the intro to the actual report).
-          The Native Americans are living under very harsh and poor circumstances. Some of them don’t even have hot water, and there are a lot of suicidal events happening. Also, life expectancy is below fifty which is very low.

  1. Where is the report from?
-          The report is from in the USA called Nakota.

  1. The reservation has the highest US rate of what?
-          It has the highest US rate of people living below the property line.

  1. How would you describe the housing we see in film?
-          I wouldn’t even call it housing. It’s just a little pile of wood stacked for it to look like a house. But as the women in the film said, she only has cold water in her house. And from that I can guess that the insulation in the house is zero to nothing, which results in a terrible cold winter for the Natives.

  1. What is the life expectancy for the Lakota Indians?
-          Life expectancy is around 50 which is very, very low.
